Keywords

This week we focused a lot on the google ads portion of creating a business. In creating a google ad, one of the main steps you do is choose keywords. So how do you choose good keyword options?

In choosing good keywords, the first step is to use your keyword planner tool. Enter your website, a few of the topics and see what the keyword planner will generate for you. The next step is to go through and narrow some things down. In choosing a keyword it is important to think like your customer. Ask yourself "what will my customer type in to find my type of store" and go ahead and narrow out the ideas that do not work. Next ask yourself what keywords are too specific that they might weed out to many customers, and which words are too general that they might incorporate customers you aren't hoping to reach, and customers that aren't looking for your product. After you have chosen your keywords, split them into ad groups based on categories. For example if I am selling t-shirts I might have ad groups of: educator t-shirts, family t-shirts, pet lover t-shirts etc.

This is a very simplified version, but following these steps will help you on the road to choosing keywords that are best for your business!
