Legality

There are many things to consider when starting up your own online business. We have considered business models, ways to design the online aspect of the business, etc., but how about the legality of what you will be doing?

Lets start with licensing. In business, licensing is often determined on the type of business you will run and products that you will carry. Licensing, if you are in the United States, is often done on a more state level, so it is something that you will have to look into personally to figure out. If you are in the state of North Carolina, a great tool is the North Carolina Department of Commerce (Link Here). In North Carolina for example, the department of commerce states that all who are carrying alcohol as a product would need to have a permit... as opposed to those who are doing something such as an online t-shirt business would not. When starting up your business, make sure you do your part to follow the laws that are in your state and obtain the licensing you need.

Taxes are also something that depend on the state where you are residing, and often depend on the size of the business you own or manage. For example, in taxes it will be important to think of things such as "am I employing anyone else, how much profit am I making, etc.?" Both of these questions will help you determine whether you will be filing federal taxes, as well as the how much on the state and local level you will have for taxes.

These are just a few things, but crucial factors to consider in the start up of your company!
